Telecommunications Network:  Network Configuration

Old Way

When a customer ordered new service from the company, the order had to be captured and then passed on for fulfillment. An engineer installed and configured the devices needed for the service, and this process was expensive in terms of time and resources as well as slower than customers wanted. In addition, the infrastructure was inflexible and limited in the services it could offer.

EDM Way

A decision service processes customer orders and configuration requests to determine the correct device configuration, based on the customer's requirements. Configuration of the organization's network devices is done remotely. Business rules ensure that only valid orders are placed and then configure the necessary devices automatically. Engineers maintain the rules to make sure they're correct, and new rules can be added rapidly when new equipment is added or new services are defined. Engineers are free to focus on network maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
